In early May, Jack France and the NAPA Racing UK team debuted the brand-new shale car at Northampton Shaleway. The car is the team’s first “from scratch” build with it featuring a rebuilt small block Chevy 8, previously used in last year’s car.
Jack France, BriSCA F1 Driver:
“We did more testing than usual in the run up to this season.
There were some early teething issues, but the car felt well balanced straight away, which was very rewarding as many hours have been spent in the workshop this off-season.”
Following the success last year, Jack would start in the Red “Superstar” Grade, towards the back of the grid.
Heat 1 saw Jack bring the car home in a solid 9th place, followed by a 6th place finish in the consolidation race, qualifying for the Grand Final.
A finish in the Grand Final did not materialise, but key points were collected from a 12th place finish in the Grand National.
The team went on to race at France’s home track of Bradford.
It would prove to be a day of “almosts” with a 7th place finish in the heat being the highlight.
On the 18th May, the team headed to the Adrian Flux Arena in Norfolk for a World Championship qualifying round.
The weekend saw a great performance from Jack with a 2nd place finish in the consolidation race.
The oval race cars made a welcome return to Dunfermline at the Knockhill Circuit, where the hairpin and wider corner link to create a unique “tri-oval” track.
The #216 tarmac car handled the circuit well and with the car settings dialled in, it was soon onto the Grand Final. The circuit provided some thrilling race action with the NAPA car making excellent progress through the pack to secure a podium finish in 2nd.
Jack France, BriSCA F1 Driver:
“What a fantastic event. It was an atmosphere similar to the World Final.
I’m super proud of the team for making a podium finish possible.”
Following on from the Knockhill event, it was onto Cowdenbeath, a popular circuit known for its close racing.
The team’s aim was as many race finishes as possible, which was accomplished with a 6th and 11th place finish, followed by a 10th place in the Grand National.
The team’s second visit to Bradford started well with a 5th place finish in the heat, qualifying for the final.
With the Final underway, Jack made his way through the field, getting up to 5th. Waved yellow flags brought the race to a temporary halt and during the race restart the #216 car acquired damage whilst cars fought for position.
The car was recovered to the pits with steering damage and unfortunately, despite the team’s best efforts, was not repaired in time for the Grand National race.
The 12th and 13th July saw the return of the popular Skegness Speed Weekend.
The sun-soaked Lincolnshire venue saw a jampacked schedule with the BriSCA F1, BriSCA F2 and Saloon Stock Cars serving up some on-track action.
In the first heat, the #216 car was off to a flying start with Jack being the first to see the chequered flag.
Jack France, BriSCA F1 Driver:
“I’m super pleased with the result; a race win is always special.”
The Grand Final was up next, with the car coming home in 12th, adding to the points haul. Sunday saw an 8th place finish in heat 3, followed by an 11th place in the Grand Final.
After a successful start to the season, Jack France has qualified for Semi Final 1, which is being held at his home track of Odsal Stadium on 26th July.
